How to Implement a Highly Distributed, Real-Time Data-Critical SOA Application

Gordon Hunt's SOA Session at SOAWorld, June 23-24, in New York City

SOA implementations are increasingly reliant on streams of data that are time-critical, reliably delivered, and sourced from mixed infrastructures in a highly distributed environment. Data formats, delivery mechanisms, fault tolerance capabilities, and stateful semantics embedded in data are often inadequately considered when architecting and implementing large scale real-time SOA applications.

This talk will introduce several real-time data-centric technologies that specifically address the challenges of wide-scale, real-time data distribution as well as how these technologies seamlessly integrate into existing SOA frameworks. Examples will be drawn from military and aerospace applications that are already seeing success with real-time, highly distributed SOA applications.

Speaker Bio: Gordon's technical expertise spans embedded systems, distributed real-time systems, robotics, and controls. He is recognized as RTI's Open Architecture expert and principal consultant for distributed system architectures. He routinely provides advanced designs and training to RTI customers and is an active member in the standards communities. Gordon joined RTI in 1999.

He is a Commander select in the U.S. Naval Reserves and is a qualified Engineering Duty Officer. His Navy involvement has included working for both NAVSEA and SPAWAR commands in a wide variety of robotic hardware and software integration efforts. Currently, Gordon is working with ONR/NRL supporting the ex-USS SHADWELL, a decommissioned United States Navy Landing Ship Dock that serves as the Navy's full-scale damage control research, development, test and evaluation platform.

Register Now for SOA World Conference & Expo 2008 East
June 23-24, 2008 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City
SOA World Conference & Expo 2008 East brings together the best minds in the business for a two-day conference that offers comprehensive coverage of SOA and what it means to enterprise IT today.

Service-oriented architectures have evolved over the past few years out of the original vision of loosely coupled Web services replacing constrained, stovepiped applications throughout enterprise IT. Every major enterprise technology vendor today has developed its own SOA strategy, supported by innumerable mid-size companies and start-ups offering specific SOA aspects or entire solutions.

Service-oriented architectures (SOAs) have evolved over the past few years out of the original vision of loosely coupled web services replacing constrained, stovepiped applications throughout enterprise IT. Every major enterprise technology vendor today has developed its own SOA strategy, supported by innumerable mid-size companies and start-ups offering specific SOA aspects or entire solutions. This explosive growth in SOA technology is in response to a global demand--IDC estimates that spending on SOA services alone will grow from $8.6 billion to more than $33 billion by 2010.
